The American Heart Association has certified over 70 of Dinner Tonight’s recipes with the iconic Heart-Check mark, to make it easier for Texans to identify heart-healthy dishes.
The Heart-Check certification is designed to help people make informed choices about the food they consume. The easy to identify mark means the recipes meet Heart-Check nutrition requirements that limit saturated fat, trans fat, sodium and added sugars, and promote consumption of beneficial nutrients. To qualify for this certification, a dish’s nutritional profile must also comply with federal regulations for coronary heart disease health claims.
All Dinner Tonight recipes are developed and maintained according to USDA Dietary Guidelines that recommend limits on saturated fat, trans fat, sodium and added sugars. Dinner Tonight recipes also provide a minimum of 10% or more of at least one of the following beneficial nutrients per serving: fiber, vitamin D, calcium, iron, and vitamin K.
The American Heart Association and Dinner Tonight share the common goal to help people eat healthier. Dinner Tonight will continue to provide busy families with quick, healthy, cost effective recipes that taste great, along with video demonstrations on cooking tips and techniques, nutrition topics, menu planning basics and information on healthy living.

About the American Heart Association
The American Heart Association is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke – the two leading causes of death in the world. We team with millions of volunteers to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these diseases. The Dallas-based association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. To learn more or to get involved, call 1-800-AHA-USA1 or visit heart.org.
The American Heart Association Heart-Check Food Certification Program is designed to help consumers make informed choices about the foods they purchase. The nutrition requirements are food-based and intended for healthy people over age two. The Heart-Check program is not a dietary solution for any particular condition or disease. People with medical conditions or dietary restrictions should follow the advice of their healthcareprofessionals.
Heart-Check certification does not apply to information or links unless expressly stated.
